5 Tips Every Dog Walker Should Know To Survive
Learn the language of the dog you are walking. The dog should be able to obey the basic commands such as sit, walk, come and stay. An uncontrolled dog can be a danger to you, other pedestrians and drivers. An obedient dog is very important and a safety factor as well.
Know and obey the leash law. Be sure to use a collar and leash for restraint even on well-behaved dogs. A halter, choke, or harness may provide better control for more challenging dogs.
Even while on a restraint do not let the dog run after or jump on strangers and other animals. Have control of the length of the lease at all times.
Make sure the dog is registered with an identification tag and a rabies tag. Microchip is also an option for identification. This is important in case the dog gets loose from the restraints and runs off.
Be considerate of other walkers or bikers by carrying an ample supply of plastic baggies for picking up dog’s droppings. There’s nothing more disgusting than someone stepping or riding in dog poop.
Walking a dog can be a pleasant experience. Have fun, be safe and enjoy each other while walking.
